With positive backing from Sport England and Cornwall Council Poynton Bradbury Architects were commissioned by Cornwall's first Charitable Trust Leisure Centre for the much-needed refurbishment of the existing and well used swimming pool and leisure complex originally built in 1973.
The works included significant the renovation and improvement of the existing swimming pool hall and changing rooms. These had to be completed whilst respecting the integrity of the original building design and features. The enhancements included the removal of a disused water slide, replacement of and upgrades to original fixtures and fittings, installation of specialist equipment such as swimming podiums, new floors, boilers, air handling units, electrical systems, high efficiency hot water system and a state-of-the-art ultraviolet treatment plant. These vital updates allowed the building to become more sustainable as well as user and cost friendly.
