Host, St Ives

  • Location St Ives, Cornwall
  • Client Rassie and Victoria Cloete
  • Year 2018

Located in the centre of St Ives, this stunning 5-star hotel was the labour of love for owners, and hoteliers, Victoria and Rassie Cloete. Converted from a former bank, the building transformed into Host has been lovingly restored using traditional craftsmanship to create a collection of luxury suites and a cool cocktail bar in the heart of the town.

Using the backdrop of this iconic granite building’s high ceilings, overly large windows and stone walls the team created an aspirational destination for a relaxed and luxurious space, fusing exceptional local workmanship, high quality British manufactured finishes, decorative art and cutting-edge technology.

Poynton Bradbury Architects worked alongside Victoria and Rassie to design and deliver the architectural vision and concept design for the scheme, achieving a successful planning approval in 2020 following extensive engagement with the local planning authority, conservation officer and St Ives Town Council.

The interiors designed by Victoria are modern and luxurious, with no detail overlooked

The design aims to combine the vintage with the contemporary to give a warm, unique experience. It was also important for us to emphasise the architectural features of the building and to create a romantic feeling.
