Perranzabuloe Parish Council acquired the the former Lloyds Bank building in the centre of Perranporth for the commissioning of a new Civic Building for Perranporth and the wider Parish.
Poynton Bradbury Architects were delighted to be selected by the Council to design the new building following an open design competition.
This mixed-use development will maintain the site as a public building, contributing to the vibrant activity of the centre of Perranporth and bringing the Council into the heart of the community. This ambitious and highly sustainable new development will contain Perranzabuloe’s public and administrative functions under one roof, creating a new hub for the local community.
The new buiding will provide a new fully-accessible space for Perranporth Library as well as a large purpose built multi-functional Council Chamber and meeting rooms. The project also includes a new fully-accessible public Changing Places facility and six new high-quality residential dwellings at first and second floor.
Following feedback from the public consultation and local council members the design evolved from a rectilinear form to one that re-interprets the traditional pitched roof. This provides a building more domestic in nature, but which adopts a contemporary approach to materials and detailing.
