A bold proposal for Truro as a “Connected River City” was presented to Government by the Truro Town Deal Board in 2021. Poynton Bradbury Architects were appointed to help deliver the Town Investment Plan, as well as the vision and masterplan for a number of pivotal projects within the bid.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Truro in April 2021 to announce that the £23.6 million Deal for Truro was successful and would help transform Cornwall’s capital and support its vision of becoming a modern economic, cultural and green city for its residents and the wider community by 2030.
Poynton Bradbury Architects engaged and consulted with the local community and a wide range of stakeholders to provide a vision to breathe new life into Truro’s neglected waterfront. Reconnecting Truro with the water and attracting new audiences from all over Cornwall the proposals seek to create new spaces for local business, vibrant and green event areas, promenades and new ferry terminals with berthing facilities and pontoons.
The wider investment plan aims to boost Truro's cultural and tourism offer by transforming some of its historic buildings into thriving businesses. Green and sustainable travel are also at the heart of these plans, connecting key locations and attractions with accessible walking and cycling routes including a number of proposed new bridges between areas currently isolated from each other.
