Poynton Bradbury Architects were appointed to design and deliver a brand new state-of-the-art 420 pupil primary school bringing together the existing junior and infant schools on a single site. Carclaze is a fully inclusive school designed to deliver a broad curriculum which is accessible to every child. Part of the brief was to ensure the design of the school would respond to the diverse needs of every children by overcoming barriers to learning.

The school was designed to follow exemplar low carbon design principles, with natural ventilation strategies including the pioneering use of ground-air heat exchangers and achieved a BREEAM target ‘Excellent’.

Feedback after the school moved in was overwhelmingly positive, with the building and spaces making a real difference to the educational outcomes for pupils.
